SPIRITUAL GIFT OF PROPHECY
Please read the following Spiritual Gift of Prophecy description and then rate yourself on a scale of 1 through 5 both in passion and experience. This is to help you from ignoring a gift God may have for you. For example you may be high in passion in the gift of “healing” but as of yet God has not manifested Himself in that way to you. If all you rated was experience you may skip over this very important passion God has given you. Likewise if you are deeply involved in “service” but are more pragmatic and less passionate about it you may be tempted to ignore developing the gift of service in the way God wants you to.
Rate Your Passion For This Gift
The first rating has to do with your passion for the gift. Are you really motivated to act this way? 1 means that you have no interest in or passion to use the gift. 5 means that the definition describes you very accurately, or that you do have a strong interest/passion in the ability.
Next Rate Your Experience With or Evidence For This Gift
The second rating has to do with your experience/evidence of the gift. Rate your experience with or evidence of the gift.
1 means that you have no experience with or evidence of the gift. 5 means that you have a lot of experience with or evidence of the gift.
SPIRITUAL GIFT OF PROPHECY
In Romans 12:6 Paul writes, “If a man’s gift is prophesying, let him use it in proportion to his faith” (NIV). Strong interprets prophecy as a “prediction (scriptural or other), an inspired speaker; or to speak under inspiration.” In the Old Testament prophecy was often predictive or praying and speaking on behalf of God, calling the people to repent of their sins or face God’s wrath. In the New Testament, because the scripture was not complete, prophecy was speaking on God’s behalf with authority on the Christian experience. Paul writes in
I Corinthians 14:3 that prophecy was to edify, encourage and comfort the believers.
Prophecy today is still through an inspired speaker. A person with this gift, like its Old Testament counterpart, has a keen awareness of current events and the cultural implications of not following God’s word. This is important because each church is made up of people, customs, and circumstances that are different from others. Prophecy helps us apply the scriptures to where we live. A person with this gift has a burden to warn of God’s judgment and the need for us to repent.
Benefits
This gift helps the church live holy in the culture and time that they are appointed. It rebukes, strengthens and encourages believers. The gift also helps the church in long-term planning and seeking God for His guidance.
Pitfalls
When God speaks to us about the sins of the church or a contemporary application of truth, we need to be careful about the battle for our own mind. It is easy to be pharisaical where we become negative or judgmental.
We need to make sure that we hear from God and not our own inner voice. Being tempted with pride could keep us from being open to discernment or “testing.” We could be blinded to the truth, unable to admit when wrong, not willing to recheck with God.
Ministry Opportunities
Prophecy helps the church be relevant to their contemporaries and speak to the lifestyle needs of the congregation. A person with this gift can serve as part of the leadership; they could also have speaking or writing ministry.
Further Training
Self study, seminary, tapes or conferences that teach the Bible, current events, apologetics, cults and end times will be beneficial. Mentoring with someone who has the gift could be helpful.

How to Rate Your Score
To be more accurate on the Spiritual Gift you need to look both at your passion with the gift and the experience with or evidence of the gift. If your passion is 3 – 5 then it is high. If your passion is 1 – 2 then it is low. It is the same with the experience with or evidence of the gift. Is the experience/evidence high (3 – 5) or is it low (1 – 2)?

Notice that Experience/Evidence is on the vertical axis and Passion is on the horizontal axis. So a Experience/Evidence score of 3 and a Passion score of 2 and would be in the number 2 quadrant.
Quadrants
Quadrant 1 = High Passion and High Experience/Evidence
A Spiritual Gift that is in this quadrant seems to be one that God has given you. You are passionate about the gift and have experience and evidence in your life that seems to confirm this. Continue to grow in this gift and use it for His glory.
Quadrant 2 = Low Passion and High Experience/Evidence
A Spiritual Gift in this quadrant may indicate that circumstances have called upon you to exhibit this skill or ministry in your life. For example you don’t have to have a high Passion to be merciful to those that are hungry around you. However your church may have a large feeding program. Just because you are recruited and spend a lot of time doesn’t mean that you have the Gift of Mercy. Rather it simply could mean that you were obedient to God by helping with a need.
Quadrant 3 = High Passion and Low Experience/Evidence
Scoring in this quadrant is common among the Supernatural gifts. Healing , faith, miracles – you may feel really burdened in situations to pray for God’s intervention in mighty ways. You pray believing and trusting that God can and will act. If this is true then you must rate yourself high on Passion. However though you are passionate in your praying for healing your experience may not be successful. You would rate your experience/evidence score low. However, this does not mean give up. It is just an indicator of your personal experience up to this moment in time. If God moves you deeply to pray for the supernatural let Him take care of the results. It is better to pray believing and not see the results you anticipated then to be disobedient and not pray. God has given you the gift, He will use it according to His will. Be faithful to the passion He has given you.
Quadrant 4 = Low Passion and Low Experience/Evidence
A score in this quadrant is usually a good indicator that God, up to this point in time, has not birthed in you this Spiritual Gift. This does not mean that in time God may call upon you to work in this area. God can give any gift at any time. He is sovereign.
Now that you have finished this self assessment, how do you feel about your discovery? Were you surprised or did you find the answer that you expected? Are you intimidated by the significance of the gift and what God may expect from you or are you confident that God has and will continue to use you in this way?
One way to confirm your findings is to ask those Godly people that know you well. Ask them to read the definitions of the gifts that you selected and confirm whether they see this same gift in your life or not. Ask them what they think you need to improve on. Ask them to pray for you that you may have understanding and wisdom in using these gifts.
Another way to grow in your gift is to report to the member of your pastoral staff at church that would be in charge of volunteers in the church. Share with them your discovery and ask them for materials to study and opportunities for service. Perhaps there is someone that they know that could mentor you in this gift.
Finally, seek out others in your church that have the same gift(s). Meet regularly as a group to learn, share stories and pray for each other. As a church you function as a body of believers. You were given these gifts to help each other. There is no limit to what God could do as you and the others in your church are Spirit led in the use of these gifts. It is a great gift and seems best if a person is humble. We need to remove ourselves as much as possible, our preconceived notions.
I saw a head of someone dead in the bushes, this head was found the next day by police they were looking for it what do i do with this vision it was very vibrant it scared me it was a vision i that i saw in the daylight..very disturbing…i did not understand at the time that it was what they were looking for…i was mad and upset to see this and hoped it was not true…………….
They did find the head the next day…why did i see this?!!! Should i have pointed it out to the police…I don’t even know why i saw this…i am very upset

You are known as a medium, a medium is a person that see the dead, years ago i too found a body, glad i did, it was in a river, caught in trees. God gives us gifts for different reasons, and maybe you are getting shown things for a reason for later on in life, gifts dont come in one sitting, they come and go like the water in and out on the beach, write all what happens to you down in a journal, dont forget to date them. hugs and blessings milla
I think we have to be careful here with terms. Medium in the Bible was a person who was spiritual but not used by the Spirit of God. In the Old Testament and New we see were people had Spiritual practices but not what God wanted. In Deuteronomy 18:11-12 it says:
“When you enter the land the Lord your God is giving you, do not learn to imitate the detestable ways of the nations there. 10 Let no one be found among you who sacrifices his son or daughter in the fire, who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, 11 or casts spells, or who is a medium or spiritist or who consults the dead. Anyone who does these things is detestable to the Lord, and because of these detestable practices the Lord your God will drive out those nations before you. 13 You must be blameless before the Lord your God.
We need to check our traditions and spiritual practices and let the word of God temper them.

My name is Tracie, I have been given the gift of prophecy, I have been given the other gifts too. Prophecy is very much a part of my everyday life in the last year and half. I am a member of a baptist church that does not practice this although I have told my preacher and he believes and supports me and I have relayed gods messages privately to a few in my church, as this was the way the Lord asked me to do it. I have also been relaying messages from God to others as directed by Holy Spirit. He sends me to people I know and to people I have never known. For the first time the Lord sent me into the church to speak in front of the people, it was a black church in my town. The Lord opened the door. I was afraid because I didn’t know I would stand in the church to do it. I was planning on revealing the message before church to the ones appointed to hear it but the Lord had it another way. My life is consumed by the Holy Spirit and his guidance. Spend most of my time reading bible, going to church, but tend to not be very sociable, in the sense of the world. Have been lonely for others that have this gift as I have contact with no other of this spirituality. Although my husband is a great believer and of much support to me. I receive most comfort from him and of course the people of the bible. I have felt the persecution of late as the eyes of many are closed. Thank you for your time. I pray for no other voice but the Lords from my mouth or yours.

My name is Kate. Ever since I was little I have had de juh vu I’ve never thought anything of it until these last few years I’ve had it everyday at least 5 times a day. It almost scares me because it is so vivid and I can tell exactly wat will happen next. I have come to the conclusion that god comes to me in my dreams to show me the images, moments and situations. I had major conformation today. Last nite I had a dream of my neighbors talking about inviting our family over for dinner and it was very vivid. Today they called us at 2 o clock to invite us for dinner and I about died. Also in the sermon this morning at my church my pastor preached about the gift of prophecy. Last wensday at my youth group my friend laid a hand on me during worship and god showed me things about her that were scary. I talked to her about and she burst into tears.. Hi Kayla. Well first of all you should not feel like your about to have a heart attack. Cause Holy Spirit when talks to you He is gentle and soft spoken. Read the word of God … everything that bothers you or scares you …like you would go and tell your friend or someone close do the same when you talk to God. tell Him everything and have faith. Cause He really loves all of us and don’t want any of us to go to hell. And everytime someone tries to truly get closer to Jesus , satan don’t like that so he will try all he can to bring people down! Trust in the Lord and pray and read His word a lot.

Wow ! Tracie, I also feel so alone! My Husband and I are the new pastors of a new church. The growth is explosive and we are already building a larger church building. The blessing this ministry has is overwelmingly God !! I Know with all my heart that if we continue to build Gods kingdom His way and not ours that we will march forward. A couple of times I have thought that a woman was as spiritually mature as I am, only to find out that no….. she wasn’t! I have no one to talk to that has flesh on them. lol Sometimes my husband tells me that I am too super spiritual and he has a hard time soaking all this in, so I hold back my excitement, and sometimes I just want to explode with the knowledge that God has given me, but I know that it is not time yet !For a long time I thought that speaking in tongues was the gibberish that some people say is speaking in tongues. I then thought, why should I believe them, who are they ? Another human being telling me what speaking in tongues means? I know what God says about it in the bible and the relationship I have with my husband Jesus also will reveal to me the truth by the Holy Spirit, who is the Spirit of truth! Please don[‘t let another human sway you from your relationship with Jesus, always ask yourself, do they have a hot-line to God and his ways? I think not! I have grown sooooo much, since I realized this small thing that makes such a huge difference!!!! Understanding the scriptures and being able to interpet them….. to people who have carnal minds is foolishness…… Not blabbering nonsense and having an interpeter tell them what you are saying. Jesus is the answer, the way, the truth, and the light.
Debbie, I teared up from your excitement in your post! This is exactly how my feelings are towards this important matter between us and God. I tell my husband all the time that I just feel like I am going to explode. In turn, I do cry a lot, however it is tears of joy from the enlightenment..My husband smiles and listens closely with chill bumps over his body from what he is being told from me.I have visions in my sleep (Dreams), a very deep sleep. He says that I fight with my arms, fists, kick with my legs, my whole body ..He says that he cannot wake me regardless of what he does to try to wake me, as well I talk out loud as far as what I am saying in these visions. What he says is true because he could not know those things otherwise. He tells me exactly what I said in my visions for the fight that I fought through them. However when I awake, my entire body hurts so bad that it is hard for me to move. My husband knows my journey somewhat and helps me with whatever it may be. He will bring me a glass of water for example because he knows the pain I am in from that journey. I have Degenitive Disc Disease, it is a bone degeneration, so after a vision my body cannot move very well. Also like I said in another post that when I awake I feel like I need a nap..Exhausted is a good example as well. Oh well, I will not babble on. It was simply very uplifting to read your post! I feel like I am not alone with this gift. Praise God! My prayers are with you through your journey, and I can only wish to meet you one day as well as so many others too.Until then… God Bless!

A lot of people don’t understand it either and confuse it so many times with fortune telling. Other times they are too afraid to engage in a conversation with as they fear God might just tell me all their dirty secrets which is both wrong. I can relate to each of you with the gift of prophecy or called to be a Prophet. I sat in a traditional church for years. Rather than go into a lot of detail, I would like to offer the opportunity to take part in free classes to train you in the gift under Kingdom Building Equipping School (KBES). KBES’ mission is to train in spiritual gifts. We just launched the School of Prophecy last semester although the classes were being taught before the school was formerly established as a non-profit this year. I have a passion to take my gift of prophecy to another level for Gods glory. Out of my whole life, my gifts had been getting a lot stronger since the past 9 months. Ive prophesied everything from the paternity of my stepson to births of children, and 6 months ago, the freak accidental death of my mother, tragedies, and accidents around the world. Recently, I became depressed because I could see these things happen ahead of time, but never know when it would take place, then to see it fulfilled in days, hours, or weeks. They are happening a lot faster now. My husband believes and so does his family, which Im grateful for. My dad encourages me to pray for the souls affected, but what about the people and their judgements??
Hi Crystal, One of the primary roles of having the prophetic gift is intercession and yes sometimes warning people. Ezekiel says that if the watchman does not give the warning the blood is on his hands but if he is faithful and gives the warning the blood is on the hands of the one that does not heed it. Not all prophetic words are warnings but we need to follow scripture in all things. Also, are you familiar with knowing how to try the spirits, and do you have other prophets and/or ways to confirm the words and visions you receive?

All I know is it’s going to have something to do with her head! I’ve been trying to prepare myself as much as possible but I’m still extremely overwhelmed. Hi Tracie, my name is Claudette, I am 49 and have been experiencing visions, and clear messages from my drams since the age of 16. I mentioned this to a pastor in church recently and he replied that God does not speak to people anymore, so i approached an assistant she replied in the same way. I also know that sometimes I feel while asleep I am placed in other peoples lives that i do not know and see their problems. I have also een told of aliments I have had and healed from and also had people ask me to heal them in dreams. I would like to develop this. If anyone knows how, please feel free to contact me. Tracie, I am in the same situation as you…It is very hard because of the fact that people do have their eyes closed and still our hearts break for them even though we know their thoughts of us. My husband is very strongly beside me as well even though he does not have visions, he has witnessed a lot of mine. He cannot wake me when this happens to me, and I fight literally with my whole body…he says I am in a deep sleep. Like he has never seen before, and he can hear my words throughout them. I hurt really bad when I awake, but I simply follow my heart with God and what he wants me to do. I also stay at home by myself a lot, only my husband is with me usually due to the fact that I am already labeled as a crazy. That’s fine too. I know the truth as well as God the father, the son, and the holy spirit! My husband knows the truth, he has heard it to many times while I have visions,I talk out loud.. All we can do is let people know and pray to God to help them find their way. In the same sense I feel it is necessary to be alone only with my husband, the one I made a vow to God with. Satan strives to send people like us false vision and false words, as well as false prophets and so on.It’s kind of important to stay alone actually.Only know God.. Close your eyes and follow your heart. Always stay true to that feeling in your heart that you know is good, the one that you know is from God..the full of love feeling. My prayers are with you! Pray upon Michael the Ark Angel to protect you through these times. I also use Holy oil for protection as well, I do this every night before I go to bed because every night this happens to me. I feel completely drained when I wake up, due to my journey through these visions. A good feeling however when I wake up I am ready for a nap,LOL! – May the Lord be with you throughout your life! May he cleanse your heart, mind, body, and soul, and prepare you for your journey. Whatever it may be…..Fight the good fight and God Bless!

Your post resonated with me. I too am a Baptist. I too receive messages for people and have found that I have prophecy. Along with prophecy, I have the gift of knowledge which really compels me to study and read for long periods of time. That said I feel alone sometimes. I sometimes use my gift and the person does not change and I feel that people are blind too–it’s so clear and yet so foggy to people when they are not in the center of God’s will (as I once was blind, now I see. We were all there once and sometimes still are). Since prophesy is relatively new for me, I am excited to see other ways it can be manifested but when I have joy at knowing something is from God, there is no one to share that joy with, which is a little lonely. I don’t see visions or speak in tongues. Does that usually happen with people that have prophecy? I only receive messages for people and know who they go to and what it’s about.

You do not need to have any other gift to have the gift of prophecy. However, as you have already stated, prophecy does seem to come with Knowledge, Wisdom, or Discernment gifts. Seeing visions, in live meeting events, are a form of discernment. Seeing visions in your private time with God is a form of prophecy so it is pretty natural for prophets to see visions in different forms, but it is not absolutely necessary. You do not have to speak in tongues either, but it is nice to have the gift for anyone honestly.

As I read your comment I felt a need to reply to you as I am familiar with the gift of prophecy. I have a prophetic gift that I am in the process of developing. Eleventh Hour Ministry is the name of the ministry that I am a member of, and we are a five-fold ministry. We strongly believe in prophecy because it is one of the best tools given onto the body of Christ to edify people. We also truly believe in speaking/praying in tongues. I was a little surprised to hear that you are flowing in the gift of prophecy without ever spoken in tongues because mostly everyone that I know who is established in this office speaks/pray in tongues. I really believe that once you’ve received the gifts of tongues the prophetic anointing upon your life will greatly increase. Keep it up, put God first in everything and watch how He uses.

To Tracie and others as I have read your post (and they most interesting) It is good to see the hand of God over your lives. However, I must caution you to know that these are gifts that are given by God to serve His purposes in the earth. Please if you haven’t read 1 Corinthians 12, where Paul talks about the gifts and their purpose in the church. In this chapter you will see that there are many gifts given, and Tracie even the gifts of tongues and interpretation of them. These are God’s ways that he decided to communicate with His body. One other point that I would like to convey 1 Corinthians 14:1 tells us these gifts are motivated by love. You must love God and his people in order to be effective in these gifts. Reading your bible and praying are most essential, also linking yourselves with a God fearing, bible teaching and spirit filled Church is very important, because the gifts are given to profit the church. Not only that, but you need a place to grow and be nutured as well, you also need checks and balances. One of the sadest things in the body of Christ is a truly gifted believer that is not accountable or does not operate under authority of a local church (that is not God). Someone said they felt lonely, this is purely lack of relationship. Relationship are important to God, he made us relational human being. This gift seems like it would be a blessing but need to depend on faith very much. Blessing because you speak of what will come. Faith because if your doing it in the flesh and speaking something false, you are a false prophet and asking for a world of hurt. Faith in that what God is giving you as truth.

It’s okay to seek guidance but these things aren’t to be be used as a crutch so you don’t have to have faith in God for yourself. Pray and seek God and He will let you know what you should be doing. I don’t mean to sound abrasive but we shouldn’t use these things like people in the world use divination.

hi Amanda! Sometimes, I feel likeasking for that, too. I just God to tell me directly whether I am walking on the path he set out for me. He has spoken to me to prophets and it’s been great. It’s. awesome. However, God also gives me answers, without involving prophets. I hope you gain what you seek and not need the help of a prophet to get it. Recommend you read the Adversary by Mark Bubeck. There is good information based on scripture about trying the spirits and how to refuse those who are not of God. The book has helped me understand much but it is still a growing process.
Discovering my gift was very challenging for me. God started revealing things in the family and church and it was very uncomfortable, because I grew up with the believe children should be seen and not heard. At the beginning they did not believe me, because how could that be possible because she does not serve the Lord that long. Alot of intimate things was revealed things that was kept secret, and it was weird knowing this and telling people that you know and God revealed it, People did not respond positively and saw me as a threat.
I would really like anyone here to help me figure out what to do. I am a strong born again christian…I pray all the time for God to show me what to do, but I don’t have that gift. I’m praying for someone to help. I have had some battle with anemia all summer, and after it was better, I was still having problems…they say anxiety. I don’t know if it is a spiritual warfare, or something medical, or if it really is in my brain. I am taking buspar for anti anxiety…helping some, but I feel strange still. I too have experienced the gift of prophecy. I actually can hear the Holy Spirit speak to me and through me and most time it is with strangers and I just walk up to them and say what he just said to me. I have been told I have the “spiritual glow”, I guess meaning you can actually see the Holy Spirit around me. I feel him daily and I also have the gift of Precognition of which I first felt was a curse and not of the Lord, however I now have turned it into a gift that he has given me to spread his word. People often look at me like I am crazy and I even tell them I know this is crazy but I had to tell you this which has been told to me to tell you. I just thank him for using me and if I have to look like a clown or a nut, then so be it. Thank you Father!
I need some help, I was blessed with the gift of prophecy, and it does excitiment, but I dont want to get ahead of myself I need guidence, I used to go to a chrisitian school and a prophet came in and told me I would be a leader, a prophet who will have dreams and visions, and I have come to a spiritual enlightenment recently, where I have lived in sin for a while, I am placing myself back on Gods path, and I have had dreams where the message has come true before, relating to my OWN life, but recently I had a dream relating to one of my friends, and the next job the same girl was talking about things related in the dream, and from what i got, one of two things could happen to her if not both, one if good and one is bad, I feel so lost and un-guided, I feel like I should be servicing her somehow in case the bad thing happens, I have not told her anything about it, and I dont know if I should, please if someone with REAL experience can help me please email me back.

This is a good question and one that cause us some conflicted thinking. It is important to make sure that we have a close and thriving relationship with Him. As we use these supernatural “knowledge” type gifts we will feel the urge to share. And of course we then need to share what we feel God is saying. I think the most important thing is to remember to stay humble and share what you feel God is saying. If there is really strong conviction then you need to share that too. But then we also have to be ready if what we felt doesn’t not pan out. It doesn’t mean God was wrong or that God did not give us the gift. We need to be ready to say that we may have been wrong in hearing from God. This is how we learn and how we move forward. With the gift of healing, not everyone we ever pray for gets healed. But we need to keep praying in faith. So I would comitt what you heard to the Lord. Share your dream with your friend and then pray that they would have discernment and hears to hear what God is saying to them.

when i was 15 i received a vision of what seemed to be gods manifestation. he told me alot about life and gifts. but there was one gift i did not recieve fully at that time due to being unprepared for it. it had something to do with the right hemisphere of my mind? i am now 27 and am still unaware of that specific gift? god seemed very enthusiastic to give it to me at that point in my life but had to hold back. could anyone possibly eloborate what this gift might be as it seems rather complex to me. . .? thankyou
I do a lot of teaching on the right hemishere of the brain, especially when it comes to the regulation of our emotion. There is a whole part of us that communicates via the right brain. Attunement, empathy are key in right brain communication. Our right hemisphere doesn’t hear words. It hears in tones, impressions, facial expressions, etc.. If I were to guess what kind of gift God would give someone using their right hemisphere I would say it would be empathy, sensing where a person is at (a form of discernment), insight. The right brain also is key to the imagination. Perhaps God wants to use your right brain to commuicate through visions and words of knowledge. I would spend time with God in meditation. I would use my right brain to attune myself to God and let Him reveal His gift to me.
Thank you so much for everyone’s comments on here. I have been wanting to learn more about the gift of prophecy because I think I may have it. I have had visions over the last year and a half about other people. Or sometimes God will just give me a phrase (or verse) to speak to someone. Every time I have told the person, it ended up being true. However, I have also had visions about my own life that didn’t pan out. Maybe I just didn’t correctly understand them or they haven’t happened yet. I want this gift and want to serve the Lord and the church with it, yet am scared to make a mistake because I know my pride and flesh get involved all too often. Also, I haven’t had a vision in about 4 months and wonder if I might be neglecting the gift. If anyone has advice on how to cultivate this gift and maybe even a good book to read, I would greatly appreciate it. I may also take Ronald’s advice to seek out a mentor at my church who has the gift. Im not sure how long Ive had this gift but I remember I had my 1st vision at 17 yrs old. I thought all the dreams & visions I were having were just coincidences. But they werent. It is God allowing us to see and hear things in the spirit realm. Things that cannot be seen or heard w/the natural eyes and ears. It is a priviledge and very powerful indeed. You must not take it lightly or use it for evil. So many people desire this gift but do not realize the serious burden it brings. Everything that God reveals to a prophet will not be good but it is their job reveal it to whom the message was intended. Its very hard sometimes. I am starting to think that I may have this gift. I have a hunger for knowledge on what is happening in the world – i.e. current affairs, politics, health, world government, with a keen awareness of end times. I feel weird in that I often cannot understand why, what is so very obvious to me, seems to not be seen at all by so many. I have this constant desire to warn people of what is ahead. To get them to see that we are close to the return of Christ. To get those who are saved, to prepare for the return of the Bridegroom. For those who do not know Him, the desire is to piece events together with the scriptures in the hope that they will want to seek Him.

I certainly see this as one manifestation of the gift of prophecy. God certainly is interested in people coming to repentance and knowing the signs of the times. I would also ask God to help you hear His voice and what He lovingly would say to others. This gift is all about Him and what He wants to say. Seek God and ask Him to develop this gift in you. Some use the gift of prophecy combined with what they call “a word of knowledge”. This is more of a divine personal word for someone that God has given them. Both ways of using this gift are a result of listening to God, hearing Him and following His leading.
Start where you are with the loving warnings of our future calling people to come and know Him and then see where God leads you.

Hi Ann, I have the gift of Word of Wisdom and this is more like Word of Wisdom than Prophecy. Prophecy is more hearing the audible and clear voice of God for guidance, comfort, and rebuking for yourself and others. Please, no one here, should think of the Wisdom granted supernaturally by the Holy Spirit as Prophecy. That is a mistake. Both gifts feel like an extreme urge to do and say certain things, but the gift of Prophecy is so much more clear and direct with that. With many other gifts, God may use you in a prophetic way, but it is not Prophecy if you are not audibly hearing the voice of God speaking to you directly. It may sound crazy, but God has the Power to do that and so much more.

I was shocked and frightened when I took a class on Spiritual Gifts and was told that I may have the gift of prophecy. The more that I read about this gift, the more apparent it became. My life may not always be a perfect example but I am continually finding myself in one on one conversations with people and the words just flow out of my mouth. While I’m talking to them, it just seems so perfectly clear what I need to tell them. I have sooooo much to say and the words just keep coming. It’s so clear to me what needs to be said. I’m excited but also completely terrified that I could possibly be used by God in this way.

I would like to encourage all of you to ask God to help you with watever you are struggling, confuse or do not understand because He is the only one that will never lie to you. We humans many times give the worng advices as many times we do not even understand the situation or the issues. Thats why all of you’s who have questions and need quidence do not go to humans for help but go on your kness and ask our Father in heaven to quide, help you and reveal to you what you need to do.
God is the only true friend that will direct your paths in the right way, not humans.
God all ready knows that you need help with the gift that He blessed you and he is more than happy to help you if u ask Him to.
I personally like to ga straight to God for help as I know that He will never leave or forsake me and will always help me. I encourage you all to do the same.

We certainly need to go to God for the wisdom and understanding to know His will and the depth and nature of the gifts He has given to us. I do however believes He uses man as well. We read the scriptures that were written by man through God’s Holy inspiration. The Bible says that He gave some to be teachers, preachers, apostles. The gift of prophecy is God working through man. There is the gift of knowledge and intrepation of tongues. We are also to edify one another. In fact man is the primary vehicle that God uses. Having said that we certainly need to have discernment and wisdom and I would totally agree that we need to get on our knees and ask God for it.

I was told by a minister several years ago that I would be prophet and an intercessor. And, I wonder if those gifts are starting to operate because I have dreams dreams that have come true, felt something about to happen then get told the following day, and have heard the voice of God tell me of things to happen that HAVE indeed come to pass. I know it is no coincidence. I only pray for wisdom and guidance in how to grow in this gift. I long for a wise servant of the Lord to help me understand the things I must do to allow the Lord to use me for His will. I long for the Lord Jesus to have His way in me. THAT’S the reason why I desire to grow in Him… that His glory may shine forth.
hello, im not sure what my gift is. i think it’s prohetess. i got baptize and didnt speak in tongue a lady came over with a look in her face and said God is gonna speak to you through dreams and vision. a prophet said that God is gonna give you a gift, so don’t use it for evil. i have had a friend’s mom tell me when i first got saved it’s been a year now, she said that, i am a prohet and dont know it. i write all my dreams down and two days ago i went back and read all of them. and in most of them i was laying hands on people, they fell out and i said to them God said for me tell you, and most people and lots of celebrities i said God told me to tell you. i was sitting at school and i wanted to go to the store and God told me that the young that sit across from me was going to follow me to the store, so i went and sure enough he came in, we went back to the school and sat down i thouight i heard him say the word HOPE and i asked him he said he did not say it but he said he thought it. i was sleep and i head my daughter say book, book, book, i woke up and she said book, book, book, and i ask my friend while i was sleep did she say that, my friend said no she didnt. God wakes me up differnt times of the day and tell me to pray for people, know, and unknown, celebrities and people i havent seen in years. i have dreams about people i have never met and can decribe them and sometime they have first name or first name and 1 last name letter.a prohetess told me that i was gonna be lonely. 1. Jesus was the perfect prophet. Take your method and manner of prophecy from Him. In John 4 He encounters the woman at the well (the well was a notorious place for relational hookups). At some point, Jesus has a revelation concerning her, that she has been married 5 times and the man she is with is not her husband, and yet he still converses with her getting her to prophesy concerning herself in verse 18. Her response is to say that she can perceive that He is a prophet. Sometimes we as prophets just say what needs to be said and it feels awkward, polarizing, and leaves us feeling like we are outcasts. If we can engage the person, as Jesus did, we might better draw out of them the issue needing to be dealt with. Sometimes, however, the prophecy is predictive in nature rather than exhorative, but I think questioning and asking about the subject matter in general can lead to a more loving and connecting prediction prophecy.
2. Remember, sometimes God will reveal something to you that you do not need to say, but it is just for your information about that person. A verse that shows this is “Jesus was not entrusting himself to man because he knew what was in man.” Also, some are given a revelation which is distinguished from prophecy in 1 Corinthians 14.
7 When a Samaritan woman came to draw water, Jesus said to her, “Will you give me a drink?” 8 (His disciples had gone into the town to buy food.)
9 The Samaritan woman said to him, “You are a Jew and I am a Samaritan woman. How can you ask me for a drink?” (For Jews do not associate with Samaritans.[a])
10 Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water.”
11 “Sir,” the woman said, “you have nothing to draw with and the well is deep. Where can you get this living water? 12 Are you greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well and drank from it himself, as did also his sons and his livestock?”
13 Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, 14 but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”
15 The woman said to him, “Sir, give me this water so that I won’t get thirsty and have to keep coming here to draw water.”
16 He told her, “Go, call your husband and come back.”
17 “I have no husband,” she replied.
Jesus said to her, “You are right when you say you have no husband. 18 The fact is, you have had five husbands, and the man you now have is not your husband. What you have just said is quite true.”
19 “Sir,” the woman said, “I can see that you are a prophet. 20 Our ancestors worshiped on this mountain, but you Jews claim that the place where we must worship is in Jerusalem.”
So, Jesus’ first prophetic interaction with the Samaritan woman was regarding a moral issue/need in the woman’s life. But if you look at the second thing he says that is prophetic it is this:
” 21 “Woman,” Jesus replied, “believe me, a time is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem.” (NIV)
He is predicting her conversion in saying that she will have a future time when her worship will be in line with how God wants to be worshiped. In fact, it will be more in line with God’s requirements than the Jews even do. This second prophetic word comes as a prediction of her conversion rather than one that related to an issue of sin. But even before any prophecy took place Jesus elaborated on her real need, the need for her to receive living water. Once she was ready for the living water Jesus brought up the issue of immorality and having five husbands. That is how prophecy works sometimes, it is the fast track to repentance (Gordon Fee?).
-The capstone of the whole exchange is Jesus reveals that he is the Messiah, the one who can give her the living water (verse 26).
22 You Samaritans worship what you do not know; we worship what we do know, for salvation is from the Jews. 23 Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. 24 God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.” 25 The woman said, “I know that Messiah” (called Christ) “is coming. When he comes, he will explain everything to us.” 26 Then Jesus declared, “I, the one speaking to you—I am he.”
I guess I just want to grow more in this gift, if it is indeed what God has given me. If so, I want to know how He wants me to use it for Him, because some of the things I see or feel don’t seem to have anything to do with edifying the Church. And I want to know how knowing stuff like that gives Him glory.
Perhaps if I am faithful over seeing “little” things, He would allow me to see more? Perhaps if I trust Him with what he gives right now, I can, in a way, trust Him with other things later?
I feel kind of alone. My husband is an ordained minister, but I think he would freak out if I told him about some things (which I have done that, and he did seem scared). I don’t want to scare anyone, but sometimes I want to talk to someone. Two people that I know were gifted this way are gone now, and I am a bit afraid to talk to other family members who may have inherited this.
I am willing to do what God has me to do, but only if He has indeed ordained it. I guess I am afraid it wouldn’t be Him, and therefore, wouldn’t be right.
Someone please help me. I am a Christian. I believe Jesus Christ died on the cross for my sins. I am 27 years old and from the early age of 5 I can remember seeing specific things in my dreams that would happen later in life. I had a bad time with sleep walking, sleep talking etc…and my parents were so scared (who are also strong Christians) that they believed that I was possessed with a demonic spirit that they took me to have an exorcism. They said since that day my walking and talking died down. Well just recently I began walking again, catching myself before I get out of the bed. I am 34 years old. When I was younger I used to dream of God and other visions. I would mostly dream of death or people dying and the dream would come true. Now a days I rarely get these dreams. All my life I have had a hard time accepting this gift, but now maybe I can do some good with this gift. I don’t know what to do or how to accept the gift. I believe there is a one true God but I don’t go to church or anything. I would greatly appreciate any advice.

the gifts of the holy spirit again says Paul that he would not have you to be ignorant, But my experience of the gifts did lead me down the wrong path when i was not converted, by saying this i mean as lived in the world and the gifts were still very evident, just remember the devil is a lie, and by saying this he will torment the HELL out of you, these gifts exercising them in the world under the worldly divine spirit it is of the devil, especially if u find yourself chasing these divine gifts, knowing first if you are a believer in Jesus Christ I myself would not have you to be ignorant, please be converted , and trust God with all Faith(a gift)in particular that works in the self same spirit as prophecy, and if u think u do have such a gift you probably do, but the devil will drive u insane , i tell the truth, all the above posts was the same questions and never a direct answer until i was finally converted,and knowing this now these divine spirits can lead to very evil trickery things be converted and dont fall in the devils trap,

I think i got the gift of prophecy but I am not sure. I am an introvert person and speaking out isnt really not within my comfort zone but recently I have been doing some research about prophets in the bible and they are all the same thing….. Its a tough gift!!! You are exposed to constant criticism sometimes their life is at risk just for telling the truth and representing the voice of God whose name was revealed to me as YHVH(Yahweh)It is a HUGE burden to bear and sometimes I wonder if i can do that.I think I have this gift for years but I keep ignoring it because I second doubt myself? I really just want to be used by God for His calling but I need to develop more faith (I am writting this and I prophecied this as my problem 10 years ago when I now discovered i can prophecy hahah its sure is funny now that i can look back and say that) I need some guidance please. The repercussion of not speaking out and letting it be is detrifyiing to the church. I saw what was going to happen years before in an assembly but I said and did nothing and I watch the church go down right infront my eyes. It was horrendous becasue I felt responsible for not saying a thing, it even haunts me sometimes just thinkinng about it and this is just one of numerous occassions I just said nothing because I fear one day I reveal a prophecy and it doesnt happen!! I would rate myself as High Experience but low passion. I rather be the gofor in church that does all the work in the background that noone notices but prophecying kinda puts me in the spotlight!! That is probably why my passion is so low aswell. Anyways I am requesting someone’s guidance that is experienced and can help me discover me. I wanna be a golden vessel of God used for His purpose
Hi, sometimes God does this to us, but He obviously wants to put you on high. You have something others don’t. So much so that He trusts you with His word. Continue with your gift. Remember your life should be about His will and not yours. Ask Him to empty you of what you want and who you are, and fill you with who He is and what He wants. God bless.
Also remember that every time God speaks to you, you must seek confirmation. Pray feverishly at the moment, using that fear to help you desperately seek an answer. If this is God speaking He will go through withHos word. I’m sure you’ve read Jonah. He was afraid of being labeled a false prophet because He knew God was gonna forgive the people instead of destroying them, but then again, when he delivered the word, He did not say what God had told Him word for word. Make sure you say things correctly. Also, know that the word “prophet” means “bubbling fountain” which means that the feeling that you get may be fear like you say, but it can also be a sense of desperation to burst out with those words, like a bubbling fountain, volcanic and explosive.
Hello Chosen Messenger. I too have found I was used in the gift and my church after a long time of confirmations from ministers in leadership that they respected HAD to receive the instructions as from the Lord…but I got rejected!! It was horrible, but I forgave. Yes, there is constant critism…who are you to tell us. Pride – got over that. Things are turning for me, now that I do Jude 20: build myself up on my most HOLY faith, praying in the Holy Spirit. And I am also increasing my time in the Word of God. My best advise to someone in these shoes: YOU CANNOT DO THIS IN YOURSELF!! That is the big lesson for us. Increase your prayer and reading/studying of the Word and allow this to take you to the next spiritual level to handle the gift. We must walk in the Spirit and keep our mind renewed. And forget about the acceptance of people, but stay humble and submitted to authority and walk in love at all times.
I would also add this. I truly believe that there is no way for someone in the office of a prophet to be a paid on staff employee of a ministry and be fully used by God… Jesus said you cannot service God and Money at the same time…conflict of interest. I’ve seen it.
That is true, and I myself have noticed that if a person is truly a servant of G-d, there would be a sacrificial life involved not a comfortable one with a paid salary. Any suggestions on exploring spiritual gifts are welcomed.
With all respect, many times God calls people to serve in churches or other paid positions. Otherwise where woould we have preachers, schoolteachers, doctors, and every other paid person? People can be Christians and have a salary. Also, when the Bible says you cannot serve both God and money, it DOES NOT mean that someone who is a “true servant” is unpaid, never a person “with a comfortable salary.” It means that to serve God, you have to be WILLING to live without money. Sometimes God calls people to be overseas fulltime missionaries, and sometimes He doesn’t. Thank you for your time. One of my gifts is decernment. When something is wrong, I have to correct it.

I’ve read some of the post left here and most of there are about people that are scared about the fact that they have the prophet gift….u should not be scared at all, u should be happy, not everyone is chosen by God to pass His message to people.

Hi! I am also discovering this gift in me lately. My spiritual mentor told me prophets often suffers.. .Actually through this suffering ( i was engaged to be married and he said he doesn’t want to marry me anymore, just a month before the booked date of the wedding day) i came to see this gift. The Lord is so faithful and great though and He has showed me that He is going to rebuild my walls and also give me comfort as well as to my ex-fiance.

I too feel i have the gift of prophecy but not sure, when i am caught up in the spirit i hear what God wants me to say but i get scared to speak to people i dont know. Right now im consecrating my self so that God can use me. i know God has not given us a spirit of fear and my only desire is to be used by God and to have more of God. Those who believe they have the gift of prophecy should truly examine their spiritual motives before using their gift, for I have seen firsthand the affects to the church that can occur when a group of people who claim to be prophets come into a church and influence a pastoral staff. Our former church fellowship was a thriving, God-fearing, Bible-teaching church body, alive and excited. As a leader in the church, also recognized with the gift of Prophecy, I served this 800 member church body that was welcoming new believers by the dozens monthly. Then came a small group of “prophets” who said God gave them a special word of knowledge to bring to our fellowship. They convinced the pastor to meet privately with them for several months, and we noticed that the focus of his sermons and ministry changed. Things didn’t sound quite as biblical as they did before; some passages somewhat misconstrued, especially where worship and the nature of God was concerned. The pastor stopped listening to his own ministry team, and they were told to follow the prophets or leave. Soon the body was suffering. We had many strong biblical leaders who met with him to bring him back on track with what the Bible had to say, but he wouldn’t listen to them. I contacted the pastor by phone, in writing, in person, and finally with some deacons, but to no avail. I told him if he didn’t go back to the Bible and listen to God and his leadership, he would lose them all. In addition, those who were weak, would wander from the church and would become disillusioned by what was happening. His pride would not allow him to confess his error, especially to a woman. Most of my ministry during that time was spent in comforting and encouraging families and individual members of the congregation, as I felt that I should not publicly denounce my pastor. Our Bible Study hours were spent in intense prayer for our pastor and focusing on biblical truth. Many of us grew spiritually during that time, but the body dispersed within a year, and by the time the dust settled, 90% of the membership left. Fortunately, over 70% went on to serve in other local churches, helping them to grow and thrive. Unfortunately, the rest of the fellowship stopped going to church, some for a while, others to this day…. His associate pastors apologized and left. The pastor stayed on with his prophets, who left the church two years later to “mentor” another church. We found out that this group had dispersed five churches before ours, all in the name of God. Those other church bodies were not as fortunate as ours, and every body suffered loss of weak believers. Those false prophets could have done a lot more damage had our church body not been so strong. Do they sound like prophets who “build up, comfort, and edify the church”? I would never want to be that kind of prophet, would you?
My concern is that some of the posters here are into occultic practices and believe that they too, are prophets of God. Mediums, psychics, and fortunetellers fall into this category of the occult. Jesus called them false prophets. The Biblical gift of prophecy is not limited to fortunetelling or interpreting dreams for individuals, nor is it designed to break local fellowships apart. The biblical success rate is 100%. If your prophetic ability is not accurately serving the Church 100%, you are not a true prophet! This does not mean that you are to spend all your time in the church. It does mean that whatever you attribute your prophetic abilities to the God’s people must be accurate all the time. You must be constantly up on your prayer life and in total communication with God, absolutely sure that anything you relay to others comes from the Holy Spirit, and not from yourself. Therefore, if your message comes from God, whether others follow your declarations is not your responsibility, and should not be taken personally if rejected. You are the humble messenger who speaks boldly, but with discernment, and will accept part of the damage control if the message is not accepted. Jesus was the Master Prophet, as He knew the future. The woman at the well could have chosen not to follow Him, but of course, He knew she would. We are limited to what we can foresee by what is revealed to us. We are not responsible for the decisions of others’ response to it.
God would never want for His children to be deceived, and Satan would do anything he can to provide a counterfeit and try to take your focus away from God. Spiritual gifts are meant to be a blessing to both you and the Church, and to help the Church grow and thrive. If you are in doubt, pray for clarity. If you don’t get that clarity, then back away from it.
The Bible also says that the spiritual gifts are given to believers after spritual birth, not from natural birth. For example, just because you worked in soup kitchens before you were saved doesn’t mean you will have the gift of mercy or helps when you become a Christian. Sometimes, the Lord has other plans for you. He may decide to allow you the gift of healing or word of Knowledge for some of those people! Just as it is with the gift of prophecy. I was an educator and artist by profession, and even though I taught Bible classes and led various departments, my passion has always been to encourage others to stay focused towards the day of His Return, and this often happens through means that are beyond my own understanding. Recently, my ministry has been primarily online in chat rooms. What a joy it is to be able to serve and minister to people all over the world from my sofa!

Praise the Lord I have A Question: God Showed me in a dream/vision of me propheseying to diffrent people in my School & Church; and I prophcyed to my friend which is a Girl, and I told her what God has spooken and showed me. What I saw and was Her stepping down from the Choir stand and start prophecying to People in her Church and she said that God had showed her and she said that she had the same dream that I had? So how do i know that i am called to be a Prophet?
Hi sometimes God uses you for a specific moment but being a prophet is a full-time job. For example, I was given the gift of Wisdom and a short time later, I spoke in tongues one time. After that, I never spoke in tongues again. I twas just that one time. It might happen again and other gifts may happen randomly again but it doesn’t mean that I have attained those gifts. However, if God continues to use you in the same way, maybe you now have the gift of prophecy. Just pray on it and seek confirmation.

Hello all. Reading you guys testimonies makes Me feel alot better. I thought I was alone. I try to explain to my sisters about this but they don’t understand. Ever since I can remember I’ve always felt different..I’ve been experiencing déjà vu since ..forever.. I almost see things before they happen and I can kinda predict when the phone is about to ring,doorbell etc..I don’t know how strong my gift is and I’ve never really worked on embracing this gift…idk what to do..it’s seems as if the older I get (I’m 22 now) the déjà vu is more frequent ..
Hi Tonya, Are you a practicing Christian? Read the Bible more and pray to God. Literally ask Him if He’s speaking to you! Ask Him for more signs and to use you the way He wishes for you to be used. The point is to actually make sure that this is a gift from a God. He has to be using you for a real reason. This gift isn’t just to show you that somebody is coming to your door, but it is used to bless yourself and, especially, others’ lives. Maybe what you’ve been witnessing is just God knocking on your door to show you what He wishes for you to do. It is only when you open the door and let Him in that the real work starts.

The earliest memories of my life was hearing a voice teaching me to count, how I can remember this is we had turkey chicks, it was my job to go get slater bugs to feed them, I would hear, ‘not under that piece of wood’ , I would turn it over anyway, sure enough there was nothing there, then I’d hear under that one, turn it over, sure enough there were slater bugs, so I’d carefully pick them up one at a time, and I hear one, two, three, I would have to say the numbers out loud, that is how I learnt to count.
It never occurred to me that no one else could hear me have conversations, with my friend, I would get the praise of counting right, and as I grew older I learnt to spell the same way. This to me was a normal part of my life, it just was; I was to learn differently from my family, I remember well my dad listening to the rugby on the wireless, the Lions were playing the All-Blacks, I just so want dad to listen to me – I remember asking him something, he shooed me off, and listening to the wireless thinking its rugby again, so in all my innocence as a child, I thought if I could help him, he would have some time for me; I told him the half time and full time score and ran out to play, little did I realise that he actually took it in, so what ever the score was at full and half time it was what I had heard, that is when my life at home changed, It changed in a heartbeat, and certainly not for the good of my life.
Looking back, because my family didn’t believe in God or any afterlife – but the fear of what I could do, backfired on my world right from that early age, fear breeds hate, my gosh I am still ostracised even to this day, my family do not understand my gift or want to understand. I remember keeping out of arms way of my mother, she would punch me, so mental and physical abuse was also the norm for me. It amazes me that I’m not a nasty vindictive adult, I see so many of these adults in society, they scare me so much, and keep well away from them.
Wendilynn teaching show me the love and gentle side of life, and its this; that has allowed me to see what love and caring really is about, not the greed, and the wanting that is so prevalent in our society. Or its not the honey I love you but the deep emotionally, loving bond that two soul know instantly- yes real love like this does exist…….
For the last 10 years now i have been seeing Angels maybe on a monthly basics, they are so different , like the ones i saw this morning, i would say these angels were war angels, they were standing in a line, not moving – praying, they were massive…then i saw another Angel after them standing on top of a cliff, he put his arms up in dive formation, his wings spread out he just glided in the air, in circles, round and round he went, i knew he was looking at something , not sure what….But then i have seen angels playing together – it was my 50th birthday, 3 years ago , i was awake at 8 am thinking about getting up and a angel appeared to me at the foot of my bed, he put his wings up into a heart shape- then he lifted his head up stared into the distance, i could see about 20 angels playing like tinker bell, dive bombing and just having pure fun, i watched this for 5 solid minutes when the angel put his head down all disappeared…

I had a weird vision last night I layed down not real sleepy but normal for me got a weird feeling i rolled over and on the white wall next to bed i seen star’s and a just a solid black mass probley a black hole. Then in space it self i seen a square black marple looking stone that tapers off at the end turning into a liquid and then space. It set right above the black space and in the center of the stone was a round pentagram with four layers of what i’d say looked like egyiptian writeing around it this stone was sand in color but seemed solid it raised up about 2 feet and had a round hole on each side then i seen two angles come in with silver looking round things in shape of a police baton then they started to take the stone out and it was gone but the really weird part is it lasted about 45 seconds and my 2 year old son who is in the crib at the end of the bed woke up and was screaming and pointing at what i’ve seen when i looked at him feel iike were both going nutts. I hade a real since of fear dureing this but wasn’t afraid hard to explane. It was very weird and the first and hopefully the last thing like this i ever see Just felt like i needed to tell someone.
hi this must have been frightening! As you know the pentagram is not really a good sign and as you felt afraid, there must have been some sort of evil/bad essence about it. However, the most important part of your vision were the silver batons. When the batons pushed the pentagram/stone phenomena out, it was gone and that’s all that matters. I don’t know much about your life and home history, but that bad thing might mean something that either is happening in your life or is influencing you and your family, or maybe it can be an evil spiritual stronghold in your home. Yet, as I mentioned, Who holds the batons has gotten rid of it. You are protected by God.

What I find most interesting is that the people who believe they have the gift of prophecy often comment about their feelings of being alone and/or separated. Look forward to hearing more. It seems like there are a number of common denominators.
It is interesting that you observed many of the commenters feeling alone. I was preaching on the Spiritual Gifts at church this morning and was talking about the “long ranger” affect we get sometimes. We have had about 350,000 people respond to our spiritual gifts material and I would say that “Prophecy” is one of the most active groups. However, I too sense an aloneness in may of the people. I was telling our congregation how we were meant to use the gifts in community, everyopne working in thier own gifts. Prophecy could be working with mercy and discernment and administration. Perhaps healing with teaching and helps.
What an exciting time we would have working with others. What a more complete picture our unbeliving friends would get of God. So hopefully part of our prophectic message could be to encourage all believers to use their gifts together so we don’t have to be alone.
Thanks for responding to my comment. I agree but also think that the aloneness may at times be part of the consequence of having the gift. Easy example – Noah, he knew something no one else did and it changed is perspective, actions, and life. Even though he preached for 120 years no one believed him. Much of the prophetic gift has to do with intercession and a boldness to calling people to repentance. Not something that most say thank you for. The prophetic gift is also one of a pioneer and watchman so one needs to keep their mind free from the “average” and be willing to listen and do what the Lord alone tells them. If Jesus were to come to America most would want to just argue or give their own opinion thinking it equally worthwhile. We have a hard time even excepting the Bible let alone someone who speaks from heavenly wisdom. We only tend to believe what we see on t.v.
Hi-this “Alone” aspect also happens to be true in my case. I think the reason is because my gift of prophecy also goes in hand with a gift in knowledge where i also study and read so much that I don’t have time to socialize or “waste time” doing things that don’t glorify God until I have a message and then I am on a mission. But I am new in a church, for the last 5 months and I am hoping my gifts will flourish more and I will be surrounded by people who are also working towards God’s kingdom and then I won’t be so lonely. Already, it is already becoming so. And I think we just need to pray and ask God for what we need. He designed us for relationships and therefore it is something we can go to God about. In my short time in prophecy, God seems to have set the path before me before I knew what the path was. He designed the people to come into my life that he has assigned me the gift for and really –it is for others. A loving, servant’s heart is what we must have for God.
It is a blessed gift- It is not something we create ourselves- nor direct – it is a given By God. It is too pick up our cross and walk with him. It is only by his guidance prophecy is revealed-but not in our time, but in his. He is God-Sometimes we expect- to know all-Sometimes the cross becomes so heavy in suffering – we think we cannot go on.
As a young child- I loved Jesus with all of my heart and soul. I read the little bible i had fervently and passionately..with a smile. I asked Jesus , when I came across the gifts of the holy spirit, What gift will you give me? I wanted the gift of tongues.
Many years later- after the most beautiful visions..while awake and in dreams-I also encountered the dark side. I feared younger- but How Jesus works is quite amazing, he walked me through the fear of evil i had. Today , I fear not evil, Yet I despise it with every inch of my being.
With a gift of such relevance and higher authority, comes much suffering, wonderful encounters and encounters not so welcome.
It is a time of great suffering more than ever at this time now. Trust , faith, courage is what we must maintain- even at the worst of times.
We do not choose a gift God chooses us!

I have this gift also, I was born with what is called “a Caul” and was told that as a result of this I would be able to “see into the spiritual realm”. I don’t recall seeing much of anything or having any enlightening experiences in my early years, however when I became a bit older, I requested the Gift of Prophecy from our Heavenly Father (YHWH) and I received it in a dream as though a ball of bright starry lights was sent to me from the sky and though there were others around who wanted to catch this ball of bright, colourful, star-like lights, it was directed especially to me and I jumped, reached out for it and caught it. I remember being told, not verbally, but telepathically – not to allow my “crown” to be taken away. Since receiving the gift I was able to see, as if watching a scene on colour television, images of things that would happen in the future, including the 911 tradegy which occured in Sept. 2001, although at the time I did not understand fully what it was that I was witnessing until it actually happened. I remember telling the people who were falling from the building: “Call on the name of Lord Jesus Christ, He will save you!”
I never mentioned anything concerning my gift to others during this time, but within the past year I have spoken more openly about it and now I regret having done so because I had a dream recently where someone I didn’t recognize as anyone that I was familiar with, attempted to kiss me on the cheek and in doing so, placed their mouth close to my ear. I then felt something enter my ear and go straight in. Since then my ‘spiritual sight’ has been darkened. I still see, but “as in a glass, darkly” not clearly as I did before. I have ask the Heavenly Father to restore my spiritual vision as I know it was the enemy who does not want me to see, as they know that they would be exposed because I would be able to see them as I have done before.
I thank YHWY for this gift and wish that it could be restored in the clarity of vision in which I first received it. I would like to use it for the furtherance of the Father’s true Kindgom and for His Glory. Yeshua, his Son and our Saviour is the Way, the Truth and the Light – Praise be to his Holy Name!
I feel I have the gift of foresight. I have seen things before they have happened. I am not exactly sure how it works. It has scared me when the things would happen. I don’t know how to control this. Does anyone have any answers?
Pls. I need a help. My name is Daniel, i have a spiritual gift of prophecy, healing, etc. But the issue is how to establish it, i have seen many vision, it seems any time i sleep i see a vision, but not clear and not memorable. When i started experiencing this gift was when i was very little, i was recieving revelations of my upcoming exam result, and on the day of collecting the result, it will be as i saw it.
I started seing visions till my 17yr. I started seing visions even when i not sleeping, either praying or sitting, and all come to pass. Any bad vision that i receive and i pray about it most don’t come to pass. But as many brethren starts knowing my gift, my spiritual life start going down and my vision starts being darker and unmemorable. Please i need your help, it is writen that iron shapinet iron.

I believe i have this gift , it can be very isolating at times. However we all know this is from God, and God doesn’t give you anything you can not handle. Prayer can help us manage these gifts , keep praying.

hello my name is kurtis and im sorry if i offend anyone at all by saying this but im not really sure what else to do or if im in the right website… i have been an athiest for as long aqs i can remeber, but today something happened to me that i had no idea and always beleived was impossible. i started feeling realloy weird and scared almost sick and knew somethingi just rt abnormal was happening when my gf went to leave the room i had a feeling of complete focus i never felt b and grabbed her and let her now that something was about to happen i and i needed her full attention and just listen to me no matter what i say, then it did… i guess i just rambled all these random things and was just squeezzing her and would not break eye contact with her. over all i suppose it lasted about 10 mins or so and when i came to i was physcally exhausted and dint really know what had happened.after a while it started to come back to me but cant really make anything out of it i just remember holding her hands and kept touching her heart and screaming at her to make sure i was getting through to her… the thing is that i’ve always felt that something important is suppose to happen to me, and im not sure if it’s relivent but im an adrenalin junkie and after that happened is the best i’ve ever felt an ULTIMATE high if you will… sorry this is so long just dont know what else to do. has anyone ever heard of something like this happen b4?

I’m kinda wondering what you said. WHAT you said can be really important. I know you’re an atheist and all, but I that after this experience you will know that there is something more out there. You have a spirit and therefore we are spiritual beings. I know you may doubt, but God can use whoever He wishes to use for His good purposes. You may not remember exactly, what happened and why, but just know that God even uses animals to speak.
Another thing that you might want to know is that the word “Prophet” literally means “bubbling fountain.” This means that there are words within you that are just waiting to pour over, to erupt like a volcano. You may in fact be chosen to be a Prophet, you just have to choose the path to be happy with it.
On the adrenaline rush, I totally agree with you. I love feeling like that and let me tell you, when the Spirit of God takes over, it feels great! However, I cannot stress this enough, WHAT did you say? Was it bad or good? Would God say these words? Just saying…there is both good and bad out there and you need to make sure you do good.

Gods gift is love and light Onukogu, that is why he gave his only Son, Jesus to die on the cross for our sins, yes we are all sinners, and make no mistake about that.
Gods personal gift to each of us is love for one another, not lust but real deep love for another, then we too, know we have God in our life, with out love life is a dead endless time.
You would know if you have the gift of prophesy, you wouldnt have to ask us to confirm it, you know in your soul, you will hear his voice talking to you – much love and blessing Onukogu, may you too, see Gods love; working in others and not just to preach the sin at another
There is a scripture which says that some will be saved by fire and some by love. Both are used in the old and new testaments. In our time there has been much emphasis of the love preached that many have forgotten the “fear of the Lord” and utimate destruction of those who ignore Him. For all who repent His forgiveness and grace are sufficient.

I have receiving words at time that are perfect for other people’s lives. Let’s say it’s time to pray. Sometimes, I’m thinking of a specific person when I pray and suddenly I freeze and see myself as if prophesying to that person. I begin to cry and thanking God for His word. The next day or a few days later, I tell the person about the words that were flowing through me for them and how I’m not sure if any of it is right, but it usually turns out that the person tells me that I’m either spot on or I get confirmation a few weeks later. However, in all of this, I never really hear the audible voice of God. I’m really afraid of saying “The Lord is saying: _____________,” because I really don’t hear God. They are just words and I understand them sometimes and other times, I don’t. Would you say this is a gift or a precursor to a gift? Or, what would you say? I’m praying that God use me more and confirm this to me as well.

Hello (: i’m Robin , i’m 16 years old and about 3 days ago God opened my eyes. I saw everything different . I could look into the clouds and see faces , and things in every single cloud not 1 or 2 but every single one. I was eating Loaded fires from Rally’s and it had bacon i could look at it and tell that it wasn’t good for me and when i ate it it was so nasty. i could feel the burning down my neck. I herd the holy spirit talking to me telling me things no one else knew about. Every thing seemed brighter and better when God revealed my gift to me. I could look at people and know almost everything about them and when i was talking to my friend I was telling her things about her life (bad things that were going to happen basically) but it was like i wasn’t talking . The words were coming out on their own. I loved the feeling of it . I have never felt like that in my Life. All i want to know is how can i experience this every day and i want a very close relationship with the Lord. Also I felt like all of my life i was out of place or people always thought i was crazy but now I know why i’m not like everyone else (:
Hi Robin, you gave no information about your spiritual condition so conclusions cannot be drawn. Are you a born again Christian? Have you been baptised and have a good fundamental understanding of the Bible in knowledge and action? The Bible tells us to “try” the spirits when one is attempting to communicate with or through us with words or knowledge. Many get caught up in the excitement of it and fail to realize the seriousness. There are many ways that this communication can start up but only one way that is from God and that is through the indwelling of His Holy Spirit and the Bible is the best and only real source of truth regarding this. Anything else is just dangerous and meant to led you into trouble. The best way to learn more is to pick up your Bible and start reading. Hope that helps some.

i have also the gift of prophecy and I do have people that have witness it…I would like to connect with many people as possible with the same gift..but i dont know how to connect them..but i thank GOD for having thing kind of gift and of the experience that i encounter, within this year, especially when I conducting discipleship with the disciples that God given to me bUt now God, want me to prepare myself to the task that He wants me to do..before the coming of His Son the Messiah, And now I have only 5 years to go with, after the 7 great tribulation, happen. So Be Prepared for Jesus is coming soon. Im so blessed!!

I have the gift of prophecy and have not been given the gift of tongues even though I have asked many times and I have the faith to receive. I am not sure why the Holy Spirit has not given me this gift. Can anyone help me understand?

The quick answer is the God through the Holy Spirit gives the gifts as He sees fit. Not everyone gets the same gifts. We can seek but in reality we should seek the giver and not the gift. It is God’s ministry and He gifts us as He sees fit. I would not despair because you do not have the gifts of tongues no more than not having the gift of mercy, healing or teaching.

Prophecy is among the greatest of the gifts (1 Corinthians 12:28) and the Holy Spirit knows why He gave you the gift of prophecy and not certain other gifts; your gift is made specifically for you, your personality and even your DNA. The Holy Spirit will use you accordingly by these and, of course, your faith.
Now, the purpose of all gifts is for “the common good” (1 Corinthians 12:7), which means that, yes, these gifts are for you, but they are to ideally be used, 90% of the time, for others, whether they are other believers or not. Therefore, what are the needs around you? Would you need the gift of tongues to help God is His purpose to fulfill those needs? Also, have you thought about others in your quest for this gift? What is your purpose in having this gift?
I’m also sure that you have researched Paul’s thoughts about the gift of tongues and the dangers and advantages that come along with it. (Thank God that you don’t need an interpreter when you prophesy; You definitely need an interpreter when you speak in tongues. Otherwise, the gift is practically useless for the common good…. I personally would rather interpret tongues!) (1 Corinthians 12:31)
Lastly, I would like to tell you that the simple fact is that, if you have asked, you shall receive. I strongly believe that God will not deny you the gift of tongues if you want it, but first, you need to be ready in your thoughts about the gift and why you think you will be using it. I’m telling you; if people just have all of their thoughts and faith in order, they will receive what they ask for immediately, but 99% of the time, nobody is thinking the way God needs them to be thinking. Maybe do a little fasting? Maybe wait for God to bring the interpreter? Either way, do not worry, it will come in God’s time.

I have another question. I have gone through a real spiritual battle the last few years and most more recent, in losing or devastation in the relationships with my family. My husband is my closest and most solid relationship, as it should be, but my son has turned away from me and mother, dad, sister, grandmother for in some cases unknown reasons, others different reasons. Friends have moved off and I feel sad, it hurts, and isolated. God has to be there more than ever before. I am not mean, nor the cause of this, I do search my heart.

I didn’t know how to respond to this before, but I re-read your post and spotted something. I don’t know the reasons for anyone leaving, but I always think God has His eternal purpose behind every good and bad thing (Romans 8:28). It might hurt, but a treasure usually comes out of it. I think you answered your own question without knowing when you said this (but then again, I may be wrong since I do not know you personally (but God does)). You wrote: “God has to be there more than ever before.” I have no idea where you are in your relationship with God. As far as I know, you don’t need to be Christian, Level 99 to be a prophet. You can be be anywhere in your relationship with Christ and God can still use you magnificently. However, He may need you to be prepared in a certain way so that He can take you to the next level in your purpose. In this point in your life, He may need you to be distraction-free for a certain thing He wants you to learn about yourself or humanity, an increase in your faith, or even a minute change in mindset. You can always extract the honey out of your situation and I bet that’s exactly what God wants! What is it that you think you need to learn?
Another thing that just came to mind is that sometimes we complain when God is just answering one of our prayers. He just works in greater ways than we could ever think of doing things. This isolation can lead you to a place that will position you to receive a blessing that you’ve been waiting for. In that case, you must let God’s plan run it’s course! Happened to me once! I asked for the next step in my Spiritual maturity and…. I became homeless for a little time…. My faith increased tremendously!

There is something I want to share. A Prophet came to my husband and I one evening a few weeks ago in the parking lot as we were leaving during a tent revival. This man was sent there by the Lord to me to tell me i have been given the gift of prophecy, telling me that I have the gift.. The next morning, my husband and I attended a new church for the first time and I was drawn by God to come to the front of the church during the prayer time and I asked one of the ladies to pray for me for the Lords direction in my life. This lady I had never met, immediately confirmed what this prophet said to me the night before and she told me I will have visions and dreams and the anointing and favor is on me and since I have taken the first step God will move in my life in baby steps. Well, I was not aware I have prophetic gifts and I have not experienced anything of prophecy or moved in this gift so I am not sure how to respond or think. I am confused. I spoke to this pastor of our new church and he told me just to put it aside and God will move in my life as He sees and wills. So, do I just put this aside and think no longer on it? Pray about it? I don’t want to be dis-respectful to the Lord.
Hi im Kyle and the first time i started to suspect i had the gift of prophecy i was trying to help a friend out because he was going down a very dangerous path in life… as i was talking to him i vividly saw two paths that were very different one was obviously very happy and a path that he would like to be on and the other was dark and dangerous and i saw certain things on that path such as murder and insanity that would plague my friend on the other path i saw him happily married and with two kids and as i talked ( he was raised in a very christian household so very knowledgable about the subject) he would listen very intently (moreso than usual) as if the words were really hitting the core and the next thing that happened actually brought me to tears….we were listening to S.O.S. christian radio (i always have it on in my room so does he) the song “How to Save a Life” came on the radio….it was very powerful and i knew God was telling me that im doing his will at the moment….at the end of our conversation he said that he thinks i have the Gift of Prophecy….I was skeptical at first but the very next day his mother mentioned she had a vision of me (she has the gift of prophecy) that was very strange, sadly i cant remember how she described it, but she said that she got some Bible verses along with it and she said she believes I have the Gift of Prophecy…i was amazed because only the night before i had been suspicious of that very thing…. other things have also happened that have helped strengthen this belief….such as a dream of me dying, meeting God and him telling me all that i would miss (my baby sister, mom, baby brother etc.) this was soon after attempting suicide and i woke up distraught and remember the dream so vividly except for certain parts wich im certain God will reveal at sometime….
